چکیده

Abstract We quantify the surface elevation changes along Yala Glacier in Langtang Valley, Nepal Himalaya, since 1981 using geodetic methods to understand recent evolution and current state of small debris-free glaciers across region. analyse differential global positioning system measurements aerial stereo imagery that were acquired 2007, 2009, 2012 2015 generate digital models for each calculation period. Continuous lowering has mainly been observed down-glacier area during periods, although a large degree variability exists, with this trend propagating up-glacier years. The area-weighted glacier mass balances range from −0.98 ± 0.27 −0.26 0.30 m w.e. −1 five periods (1981–2007, 2007–2009, 2009–2012, 2012–2015 2007–2015). These calculated mass-balance data reveal undergone accelerated loss late 2000s, which is consistent results previous situ measurement remote-sensing studies.

Modelling glacier change in the Everest region, Nepal Himalaya

In this study, we apply a glacier mass balance and ice redistribution model to examine the sensitivity of glaciers in the Everest region of Nepal to climate change. Highresolution temperature and precipitation fields derived from gridded station data, and bias-corrected with independent station observations, are used to drive the historical model from 1961 to 2007. The model is calibrated again...

The search for seismic signatures of movement at the glacier bed in a polythermal valley glacier

A passive seismology experiment was conducted across the main overdeepening of Storglaciären in the Tarfala valley, northern Sweden, to investigate the spatial and temporal distribution of basal microseismic waveforms in relation to known dynamics of this small polythermal sub-arctic glacier. The high ablation rate made it difficult to keep geophones buried and well coupled to the glacier durin...

Snow and glacier investigations using hyperspectral data in the Himalaya

This article presents highlights of the research work done in hyperspectral remote sensing in the Himalayan cryosphere. Hyperspectral radiometric investigations conducted at different field locations of NW Himalaya and cold laboratory are discussed. Spectral signatures were collected for varying snow grain size, contamination, liquid water content, vegetation/soilmixed snow, glacier ice, morain...

Estimating High Resolution Daily Air Temperature Based on Remote Sensing Products and Climate Reanalysis Datasets over Glacierized Basins: A Case Study in the Langtang Valley, Nepal

Near surface air temperature (Ta) is one of the key input parameters in land surface models and hydrological models as it affects most biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes of the earth surface system. For distributed hydrological modeling over glacierized basins, obtaining high resolution Ta forcing is one of the major challenges. In this study, we proposed a new high resolution daily Ta...

Quantifying sublimation of buried glacier ice in Beacon Valley

A remnant of Taylor Glacier ice rests beneath a 40-to-80-cm-thick layer of sublimation till in central Beacon Valley, Antarctica. Our 1-D vapor diffusion model, with input from micrometeorological data collected during the 2004 austral summer, shows that vapor flows into and out of sublimation till at rates dependent on the non-linear variation of vapor concentration with depth. Although measur...
